Faisal Mohyuddin
Faisal Mohyuddin is an educator, writer, and visual artist from Chicago, Illinois. He has taught English at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois, since 2003, and continues to serve as an educator adviser to Narrative 4, an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering empathy and the building of social bridges through the exchange of stories. He was a fellow in the Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) program, a joint professional development oppportunity of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX). As part of his fellowship, in April 2016 Faisal participated in an international field experience in Senegal, working with host teacher Mr. Mamadou Fall at Lycée Maba Diakhou Ba in Nioro du Rip, a city in the country's Kaolack region.
Faisal has a BA in English from Carleton College, an MS in education from Northwestern University, and an MFA in creative writing from Columbia College Chicago. His writing has appeared in several publications, including Poet Lore, Atlanta Review, Crab Orchard Review, RHINO, the minnesota review, Prairie Schooner, which awarded him its 2014 Edward Stanley Prize, and Indivisible: An Anthology of Contemporary South Asian American Poetry (University of Arkansas Press). In October 2015, Faisal participated in his first art exhibition, a three-person show entitled Ta'weez Project No. 1. He lives in Chicago with his wife Hina and son Zayan.
